WHR Architects were retained by Stamford Hospital for the redevelopment and addition to the existing hospital. This multi-phase project takes approximately 10 to 15 years to complete and includes a new central plant and significant site utility infrastructure upgrades. Phase 1 includes the first 4 floors of an 11-story main building, a 2-story central utility plant, and medical office.
The new multi-level specialty healthcare building has public amenities and a pedestrian walkway connecting it to the current hospital. Additionally, it includes an all new state-of-the-art Emergency Department, new surgical suites, an expanded Intensive Care Unit, separate adult and pediatric services, and consolidation of the hospital's expanding Heart and Vascular Institute and Interventional Cardiology Laboratories, and a parking garage containing approximately 750 cars.
