The Barnes Foundation Parkway Facility includes a combination of galleries with spaces to complement the secondary teaching and horticultural missions of the Barnes Foundation. The Barnes Foundation was initiated by Albert Barnes in the early 20th century to “promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts” and horticulture.
The building includes an educational permanent collection gallery, special exhibition galleries, auxiliary galleries, facilities for painting conservation and restoration, public entry, visitor services, food service and retail, classrooms, auditorium, administrative spaces and offices, and conservation laboratory.
The classrooms and interior gardens neighbor gallery spaces on each level and there are vast public gardens surrounding the exterior. Project awards include the 2013 AIA Institute Honor Award for Architecture, 2013 Building Stone Institute Tucker Award and, the 2012 Apollo Award for Museum Opening of the Year.
